The Hawkins Family-October 8, 2006

When producers of ABC’s Extreme Makeovers approached Trilogy for the Hawkin’s Family Pool in Nashville, TN, they had no idea we made fiberglass pools. They had only seen photos of FUSION and just “assumed” they were concrete pools. During design reviews, it was revealed that we were a fiberglass manufacturer and there was an immediate dispirited air that filled the meeting. In the words of one attendee, “we appreciate your generosity, but we were hoping to build a truly beautiful pool for Amy Hawkins.” Unfortunately, while saving her children from falling debris during a tornado, Amy was hit by a wall and lost the use of her legs.

Swimming is where she felt normal again and she had always dreamed of a pool in her backyard for her children to enjoy. As we showed various FUSION design concepts for the Hawkin’s pool, the room instantly regained enthusiasm and we finished the design. No one could believe that we could achieve that look and style in a composite pool.

For the first time in the history of Extreme Makeover-Home Edition, the pool and swimming became a prominent part of the episode’s theme.
